My Hero Academia: 10 Times The Students Failed To Work Together
Student heroes need to learn the value of teamwork, but sometimes, these students refuse to get along, or try to fight alone. It won't end well.
When Bakugo Tried To Fight All Might Without Izuku's Aid
During the final exams arc, the students had to fight their teachers in pairs, and the 10th and final match pitted Katsuki Bakugo and Izuku Midoriya against the seemingly invincible All Might. The odds were steep, but Bakugo made his odds even worse by rejecting Izuku as a teammate.
Bakugo was stubbornly determined to prove himself #1 alone, and this strategy utterly failed. He lacked the power to defeat All Might on his own, and he and Izuku would both pay the price for it. Fortunately, Bakugo finally cooperated with Izuku at the last moment, and All Might was foiled.
9When Mineta & Sero Fell Apart Against Midnight
Another student-vs-teacher fight involved Minoru Mineta and Hanta Sero against the seductive Midnight, who quickly dispatched Sero off-screen with her Quirk. Clearly, Minoru and Hanta were a rather weak team, and Minoru had to somehow achieve victory on his own.
Minoru found a way. He used a bit of Sero's tape to cover his mouth and nose, then collected his dozing teammate and rushed past Midnight to the arena's exit. That was a major victory of his, but Hanta still failed the test. Those boys never really formed an effective team at all.
8When Shoto & Inasa Kept Butting Heads While Facing Gang Orca
Katsuki and Izuku are bitter rivals, while Shoto Todoroki has a major rival of his own: the talented Inasa Yoarashi. There was already some bad blood between them, and they ended up as awkward teammates during the second phase of the provisional hero license exam.
Shoto was too proud to accept help, and Inasa had a grudge against Shoto, meaning these boys made for terrible teammates, even though they had a common foe (Gang Orca). In the end, Shoto and Inasa finally cooperated, but it was too late; they had already failed the exam.
7When Seiji Shishikura Abandoned His Classmates To Fight Alone
As a general rule, students from the same school support each other during the provisional hero license exam, but the students of Shiketsu fell short. They wandered around on their own. In particular, Seiji Shishikura was acting purely out of self-interest. He sought to weed out students he deemed unworthy.
It isn't Seiji's place to evaluate other students like that, and although he was powerful, he had no teammates to call upon when class 1-A challenged him, and Denki Kaminari zapped him into submission. Seiji should have had a squad on hand.
6Momo & Shoto Didn't Have A Plan At First When Facing Aizawa
This was another student-vs-teacher battle where the two students initially struggled against the teacher, but in this case, the issue wasn't someone's bad attitude. Instead, the problem was Momo Yaoyorozu's shaky confidence. She was still upset about her quick defeat in the sports festival arc.
Momo and Shoto rely heavily on their Quirks, and their opponent, Eraser Head, kept nullifying those Quirks. Momo and Shoto couldn't coordinate their efforts at first, and at one point, Momo was simply running away. Eventually, Shoto gave her a pep talk, and they finally came together as a team to achieve victory.
5Izuku's Blackwhip Quirk Disrupted His Team's Plan Against Class 1-B's Team
4Denki & Mina Had No Plan Against Principal Nezu
This was one of the first student-vs-teacher exams, and right from the start, Denki Kaminari and Mina Ashido were at a serious disadvantage against principal Nezu. In fact, Denki and Mina never even came face to face with their opponent, meaning they had no chance to overpower him in combat.
nstead, Denki and Mina ran around, searching for the escape, but they had no solid plan to work with and didn't combine their Quirks at any point. Time ran out, and they failed the test. This shouldn't be how a superhero team operates.
3Tsuyu & Ochaco Fought Awkwardly Against Himiko Toga
During the forest training arc, the League of Villains attacked, and the shapeshifting Himiko Toga confronted Ochaco and Tsuyu. Ochaco and her friend started to act as a team, but it fell apart quickly. The girls didn't coordinate their Quirks well enough, and Himiko took the initiative.
Himiko wounded Tsuyu's tongue and pinned her to a tree, leaving Ochaco alone against the villain. Ochaco even used Gun Head martial arts, but Himiko still obtained a blood sample, and Himiko only retreated when more class 1-A students arrived.
2Class 1-A Didn't Have A Plan When Fighting Mirio Togata
Late in Season 3, the "big three" of U.A. arrived, and Mirio Togata, in particular, was ready to demonstrate what he was capable of. He fought eighteen of class 1-A's students along in the gym, with only Shoto and Bakugo not taking part. Class 1-A had superior numbers, but that wasn't much of an advantage.
Class 1-A's students split themselves into a group of melee fighters and a group of ranged fighters, but otherwise, they had no real plan, and didn't coordinate their efforts nearly as much as they could have. That contributed to their swift and total defeat at Mirio's hands.
1No One Helped Ochaco Or Izuku Except Each Other
This was one of the first fights in the entire series, and in it, prospective U.A. students had to prove themselves in a physical exam against giant robots. For the most part, the students fought only by themselves with limited teamwork. At one point, Ochaco got herself stuck in rubble as a massive robot approached.
No one saw her or tried to help, except Izuku. He had already formed a good impression of Ochaco, and mightily returned the favor with a Smash attack to destroy the robot. Ochaco repaid him soon after, and it was the only real example of teamwork in this battle. Class 1-A has not yet come together, and the students are definitely weaker on their own.
